therapy

Therapy is a collaborative process that helps you better understand yourself, your experiences, and the challenges you may be encountering. It provides an opportunity to explore thoughts and feelings in a supportive and safe environment, providing you with new skills to support you in making meaningful change.

At SPS we believe therapy should be easy to understand, useful, and human. We don’t overwhelm you with jargon, theories or systems, we focus on helping you make sense of what matters to you and supporting you to create positive change.

Beth is a HCPC registered psychologist with over 8 years’ experience supporting people with complex needs within the prison service, the NHS, and now within private practice. She offers 50 minute virtual sessions to those over the age of 18 and based in the UK.

Beth uses a person centred, trauma informed approach within her therapy sessions, ensuring to create a safe environment where you feel at ease to discuss the difficulties you may be facing. She offers down-to-earth, easy to understand sessions so that you can take the learning and put them into practice in everyday life.

Some people may come to therapy with a clear understanding of their difficulties, their goals, and their therapeutic preferences, and others may not. Either approach is perfectly fine and Beth can work with you to identify what progress and change means to you.

What to Expect?

Step one

Schedule a consultation call

Use the ‘contact us’ form or send us an email to hello@stephensonpsychologyservices.com to arrange a free 15-minute consultation call.

The call is an opportunity for both of us to get a feel for each other, to discuss what you might like to cover in therapy, and to answer any questions you may have.

Step two

Complete Paperwork

Following the consultation, if you decide you want to arrange a session we will email you some paperwork including:

  • Registration Form

  • Client Contract

  • Privacy Notice

These usually take no longer than 10 minutes to read, complete, and sign.

Step three

Book your first session

Once we have received your completed paperwork, we can arrange a time and date for your first session.

Sessions can be arranged on Microsoft Teams, Zoom or WhatsApp (video or audio only), depending on what works best for you.

Payments should be sent via bank transfer at least 48 hours before your session to secure the appointment.

Step four

Attend Your Sessions

There is no expectation for you to prepare anything for the first session. Some people find it useful to think about what has led them to therapy and what they hope to get out of it, however if you’re unsure that is also fine and we can work together to start building an understanding.

The first session is an opportunity to get to know each other, explore the aims of working together and answer any questions you might have.

From there most people book a regular slot often starting weekly and reducing this over time as you feel fit. It is likely that you will be asked to continue reflecting on the topics discussed in therapy outside of sessions to solidify your learning.
